The matchup at R.E. McKee Stadium between the Canutillo Eagles and Austin Panthers featured two well-known players around the city of El Paso. The Panthers featured RB/LB Jayden Wilson and the Eagles have runningback standout, LJ Martin.
With both teams’ defenses having a satisfactory scoreless opening quarter, business began to pick up on the very first play in the 2nd Quarter when LJ Martin had an explosive 29-yard Touchdown run to give the Eagles the 7-0 lead. The next and only other score of the first half came when Martin found the endzone on a 43-yard Touchdown run with less than 4 minutes remaining before halftime to put Canutillo up, 14-0.

Canutillo began to spread the wealth on their opening drive of the 3rd Quarter, when Anthony Ayala had a 58-yard Touchdown run to give the Eagles the 21-0 edge. Coming off an Austin turnover, the Eagles capitalized on the ensuing possession with a 3-yard LJ Martin Touchdown run to extend the Eagles’ lead, 28-0.
The Eagles had an answer for anything Austin attempted, as they completely shutdown Jayden Wilson and Marc Saenz, who are used to having a couple of breakout runs and scores. In the middle of the 3rd Quarter, Canutillo iced the game with a 25-yard Touchdown run from Rene Hurtado to make it 35-0, Eagles.
Both defenses played a hard-fought closing quarter, which went to the advantage of the Eagles, as they defeated the Austin Panthers, 35-0.

Next week, Canutillo (2-1), with travel to Del Valle to take on the Conquistadores. The Panthers (0-3), will seek their first victory of the season next week, as they will go to Excalibur Stadium to face off against Hanks.
