The UTEP Women’s Basketball team started the season in epic fashion as Mary Moses Amaniyo set a new school record with 22 rebounds in their 84-60 win over The Grand Prairie View A&M Panthers on Monday afternoon at the Don Haskins Center.
Along with the record setting 22 rebounds, Amaniyo scored a team high 16 points giving her a double double. The Miners only lead by four points after the first quarter but then got a spark off the bench by Amaniyo and Heaven Samayoa-Mathis giving the Miners a 38-29 at the half.
Utep would then go on a 16-2 run in the third and put the game out of reach as the Miners cruised to a 84-60 win.
The Panthers were lead by Crystal Schultz and CJ Wilson as they both had 18 points. The Miners had four players in double figures including Amaniyo, Samoya Mathis (16pts), Sirviva Legions (12pts), and Brooklyn Terry (13pts).
With the win the Miners start the season 1-0 and will host Nicholls State on Saturday night at the Don Haskins Center.
