On Thursday morning the UTEP Miners football team named Malachi Nelson the starting quarterback for the upcoming 2025 season.
Nelson is a former Class of 2023 No. 1 overall recruit. He transferred to UTEP after attending USC and Boise St.
There was an intense QB competition but in the end Nelson beat out Shay Smith, Cade McConnell and Skyler Locklear for the starting job. Nelson’s first start will come a week from Saturday as the Miners take on Utah State.
