EL PASO – The No. 16 UTEP rifle team is set to host No. 10 Nebraska on Saturday, Feb. 1, at the UTEP Rifle Range inside the Military Science Building. The competition will feature a single relay beginning at 7:45 a.m. MST. Fans are encouraged to attend, as the event is free and open to the public.

LAST MATCH
The UTEP rifle team opened its spring season with a strong showing, firing a 4655 aggregate in a competitive tri-match at TCU. The Miners posted a 2312 in smallbore and 2343 in air rifle, finishing behind TCU (4714) and Ohio State (4705). Carlee Valenta led the team with a 1178 aggregate, matching her career best with 79 center shots. Isabella Rios and Amy Visconti followed with 1160 each, while Paige Hildebrandt set a career-high 1153. Julia Czernik also hit a personal best in smallbore (569), highlighting a solid overall performance for UTEP.
MINER RANKINGS
The UTEP rifle team continues to make its mark nationally, ranking No. 15 in air rifle, No. 16 in aggregate, and No. 17 in smallbore. Individually, Carlee Valenta leads the Miners in air rifle at No. 36 and in aggregate at No. 64, while Kameron Wells follows at No. 64 in air rifle and No. 76 in aggregate. In smallbore, Wells leads UTEP at No. 83, with Isabella Rios at No. 92 and Valenta at No. 94, placing three Miners in the top 100.
LEADING THE WAY
UTEP’s standout performers have consistently led the way this season, with Kameron Wells leading the Miners in smallbore six times, while Carlee Valenta has dominated air rifle, finishing as the team’s top performer nine times, including the last four matches. Valenta has also led UTEP in aggregate six times, securing the top spot in four of the last five competitions. Both Valenta and Wells have each led the team in two categories during a single match six times, while both have achieved the impressive feat of leading UTEP in all three events once this season.
THE OPPONENT
Nebraska
Nebraska remains a national contender, ranking No. 9 in both smallbore and aggregate while sitting at No. 10 in air rifle. Emma Rhode leads the Cornhuskers individually, holding the No. 1 spot in smallbore, No. 4 in aggregate, and No. 31 in air rifle. Nebraska’s depth is further highlighted by Maddy Moyer, Alivia Perkins, and Camilla Johannessen, who all rank in the top 100 across smallbore, air rifle, and aggregate.
