The New Mexico State Aggies won the Battle of I-10 as they dominated the UTEP Miners Men’s Basketball team in front of a sold out Don Haskins Center on Saturday night 85-57.
The Aggies started the game on a 6-0 run but the Miners tied the game 10-10 at the 13:55 mark of the 1st half and they would take the lead 40 seconds later 13-12. That would be the only time that the crowd at the Haskins Center would see the Miners lead as NMSU went on a 26-12 run to end the half and and have a 38-25 lead at the break.
The Aggies would continue to dominate in the second half as they never let the Miners get in a groove and outplayed them in every aspect of the game giving them the 85-57 win.
NMSU was lead by Zawadie Jackson as he had 18 points and 5 assists. Robert Carpenter would score 17 and Peter Filipovity scored 15 points as well.
UTEP was led in scoring by David Terrell Jr’s 17 points, Otis Frazier III scored 13 and Devon Barnes scored 9 points in the loss.
The Aggie win snapped a 6 game winning streak giving the Miners their first loss in C-USA play. NMSU remains perfect in league play.
The Miners will try to rebound from the loss as they travel to take on Liberty on Thursday night at 7pm.
