Middle Tennessee Pulls Away late to Beat UTEP Women 56-41

In a game that was close for most of the game, the Middle Tennessee Lady Raiders went on a 14-0 run in the last six and a half minutes of the game to beat the UTEP Women’s Basketball team 56-41 at the Don Haskins Center Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Raiders came into this game perfect at 10-0 in Conference USA play but struggled for 3 quarters of the game against the Miners defense. UTEP held Middle Tennessee to only 11 points in the first quarter and at halftime the Lady Raiders had a 23-20 lead.

The third quarter played out like the previous two as both teams would exchange leads but it wasn’t until there was six and a half minutes left in the game that the Lady Raiders went on their game winning 14-0 run fueled by a couple of three pointer made by Courtney Whitson. Middle Tennessee ended up making 11 three pointers compared to the Miners only making one

UTEP was lead by Aaliyah Stanton who scored 11 points. Jane Asinde had 8, and Luisa Vydrova scored 6 points for the Miners. For Middle Tennessee, Savannah Wheeler lead the team with 16 points, Whitson had 15 and Jaylin Gregory scored 14 points.

With the win Middle Tennessee remains perfect in C-USA play at 11-0. UTEP is now 4-7 in C-USA play and will travel to take on Louisiana Tech on Thursday.
