Asinde Scores 26pts in UTEP’s 63-55 Win over TX A&M Kingsville

Thanks to a 12-2 run in the last 6 minutes of the game and double double performance by Jane Asinde, the UTEP Miners Women’s Basketball team beat the Texas A&M Kingsville Javelinas 63-55 Tuesday night at the Don Haskins Center.

Up until the last six minutes of the game, the Miners and the Javelinas had a tremendous outing as the game was tied 8 times and featured 12 lead changes. The Miners led 13-11 after the first and then the Javelinas led at halftime 30-28.

The third quarter was the same as the previous two with the teams going back and fourth but the Javelinas had a three point lead at the end of it.

The fourth quarter is were everything changed as the Miners defense put a stop to the Javelinas offense as they only allowed them to score 7 points in the quarter. The Miners on the other hand scored 18 which lead to their 63-55 win.

UTEP’s defense was on point on Tuesday night as they forced 22 turnovers and got 9 steals. Offensively it was he Jane Asinde show as she scored 26 points and had 12 rebounds. Delma Zita had a big second half for the Miners as she scored most of her 13 points in it.

Texas A&M Kingsville had three players in double figures as Janessa Payne had 11 points. Georgia Ohiaeri and Veyda Lake each had 10 points.

With the win the Miners are 3-0 to start off the season and they will travel for their next game as they face California Baptist on Saturday at 12pm.
