Led by double doubles by Erin Wilson and Jane Asinde, the UTEP Miners Women’s Basketball team edged out the Kansas City Roos 62-60 on Saturday afternoon at the Don Haskins Center.
The game went back and forth as the teams would exchange leads at the end of the quarters. At the end of the first quarter, UTEP lead 17-13 but at the half, Kansas City had a 34-27 lead.
In the third quarter the miners went on a big run that would give them a 49-46 at the end of the quarter.
In the fourth, Kansas City made a run of their own and had a 1 point lead with under a minute in the game but then Jane Asinde made a three point play that would give the Miners the lead for good.
UTEP was led the debuting Asinde who had 24 points and 14 rebounds. Erin Wilson had 13 points and 12 rebounds and Veonce Powell scored 13 points.
For the Roos, they also had three players in double figures as they were lead Nariyah Simmons who had 15, Dominique Phillips scored 11 and Alayna Contreras had 10 points.
With the win the Miners are now 2-0 and will host Texas A&M Kingsville Tuesday night at the Don Haskins Center.
