Americas Tops Franklin 16-10

In the classic District 1 6A defensive skirmish, Americas came out on top at Franklin 16-10. Franklin had been successful on most series moving the ball, yet its efforts to add points diminished due to turnovers and the inability to capitalize in the final 35 yards of a drive.

The Trailblazers relied heavily on its run game to pick up crucial first downs, and won the battle of field position. Americas’s senior quarterback, Mark Moore led the offense with disguised hand offs and runs of his own to relieve the constant pressure of Franklin’s defense.

“It’s one of those games where you hate to see some come out with an L,” said Americas head coach Noe Robles. “We just got to keep our kids level headed, keep them humble and hard working.”

With the result of last night’s ball game 3 teams currently sit in a tie at fourth in District 1 6A. Franklin, Americas and Pebble Hills all share a single blemish in the early stages in district play.

Next week, Franklin will have a short turnaround as they play on the road at the SAC Thursday, against Socorro. While, Americas will take on its Eastside foe in Eastlake for a highly anticipated matchup.
