The 2023 Golden Gloves National Tournament of Champions took place in Chester, Pennsylvania that featured six days of competitions beginning on May 8 to the 13th. Fighters from all over the nation, representing their respective state, competing for the Title of Golden Gloves of America National champion.
Kayla Gomez, representing the state of Texas and the City of El Paso, competed in the 119 LBS. division.
Kayla’s path to the title began on Wednesday May 10 in the prelims where she got the victory over Mandy Hernandez
On Thursday May 11, in the Quarterfinals Gomez got the victory over Brooklin Schoen
Friday May 12, Semi-finals Gomez punched her ticket to the finals with the victory over Hainite Tuitpou
May 13 in the Finals Gomez sealed her place in El Paso History by defeating Trinity Prospers to become a Golden Gloves of America National Champion in the 119 weight Class.
Gomez continues to add to her stellar boxing career with title of Golden Gloves National Champion and etch her name among some boxing greats that have competed in the Tournaments history like Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali), Floyd Mayweather, Oscar De La Hoya, and Mike Tyson.
Team Texas also took 1st place in the team division.
The Golden Gloves Tournament which began in 1923 has provided an opportunity and environment for young athletes to develop lifetime skills.
