The El Paso Chihuahuas opened up the 2023 season with an impressive 14-3 win over the Sugar Land Space Cowboys 14-3 Friday night at Southwest University Park.
After trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning, El Paso scored 13 unanswered runs to beat Sugar Land. Alfonso Rivas had a great game for the Chihuahuas as he went 3-for-5 with two RBIs. Rivas hit a solo home run inside the right field pole in the fourth inning, which was the Chihuahuas’ first homer of the season.

Chihuahuas leadoff hitter Matthew Batten reached base four times in the win, going 1-for-2 with three walks.
The two teams will face off again tonight at Southwest University Park with the first pitch being at 6:35 pm.
