Jazion Jackson Hits Game Winning Three as UTEP Upsets #21 Middle Tennessee 65-62

Jazion Jackson hit a three pointer with 0.4 seconds left in the game to give the UTEP Miners Women’s Basketball team a 65-62 win over #21 Middle Tennessee Thursday Night at the Don Haskins Center.

The win was the first Miners win over a ranked opponent since 1998. Jackson’s three came as Middle Tennessee had come back down by 7 in the fourth quarter to tie it up 62-62.

UTEP came fired up to play this game as they only trailed by two at Halftime 34-32. In the third the Miners started the half on a 9-2 run that propelled them to a 51-45 lead at the end of the quarter.

It was in the fourth that the 21st ranked team in the nation made their push to try to win the game as The Lady Raiders outscored the Miners 17-14 in the quarter but it wasn’t enough as the last points of the game belonged to UTEP along with the win.

The Miners had four players in double figures as Elina Arike scored a career high 20 points. Erin Wilson scored 13 points, Avery Crouse had 10 points and Jackson scored 10 points with her last three being the game winning points.

With the win the Miners are now 14-6 overall and 7-4 in C-USA play. The give Middle Tennessee their first loss in CUSA (11-1). They will next play on Saturday as they host Western Kentucky. Tip off is at 1pm.
