UTEP Sweeps Louisiana Tech with 72-66 Win

The UTEP Miners Women’s Basketball team remained perfect at home as they beat Louisiana Tech 72-66 Saturday afternoon at the Don Haskins Center.

The Miners battled back from a 21-16 deficit at the end of the First Quarter to having a 36-33 lead at halftime. The Miner offense was sparked by Sabine Lipe as she had 8 points at the break.

In the second half the Miners went on a couple of scoring runs including a 15-5 run in the third quarter that basically put the Miners up for good for the rest of the game.

In the fourth quarter, both teams exchanged three pointers several times but UTEP was able to maintain their lead as they answered every time LA Tech would score.

UTEP had four players in double figures as Jazion Jackson scored 15 points with 5 rebounds. Avery Crouse, N’Yah Boyd and Adel Tac would each have 11 points. Sabine Lipe and Elina Arike would also add 8 points each for the Miners.

For LA Tech, they were lead by Keiunna Walker who scored 24 points in the game. Salma Bates Scored 14 and Amaya Brannon scored 13 for the Lady Techsters.

With the win, the Miners sweep the Lady Techsters in Conference USA play. They improve to 10-3 overall and are now 3-1 in C-USA. For their next game they will travel to take on UTSA on Wednesday night, tip off is slated for 6pm.
