Montrose Leads Miners in 80-65 Win Over Texas Southern

UTEP Freshman Soleil Montrose scored 23 points leading the Miners in a 80-65 win over the Texas Southern Tigers Wednesday night at the Don Haskins Center.

Montrose sparked UTEP as she scored eleven points in the first quarter and another eight in the second giving the Miners a 46-29 lead at Halftime.

Beside Montrose, the Miners would have two other players in double figures as N’Yah Boyd scored 14 points and Jazion Jackson would score 12. Eliana Cabral was one point shy of getting into double figures.

The Miners also played great on defense as for the third straight game they forced over 20 turnovers in the game. They forced 24 against the Tigers.

For the Tigers they had two players in double figures as Micah Grey scored a game high 26 points and Taniya Lawson scored 11 points.

With the win the Miners start the season at 3-0, they will next host Texas State on Saturday night. Tip-off is at 7 pm at the Don Haskins Center.
