Miners Dominate New Orleans 83-55

The UTEP Miners Women’s Basketball team started off the season by having a dominating performance against the New Orleans Privateers 83-55 Monday night at the Don Haskins Center.

The Miners dominated in the first half as their defense forced 21 turnovers and turned that into a 16-2 run in the last four minutes of the half to give them a 37-25 lead at halftime.

The 2nd half was basically the same, Miners continued to put tremendous pressure on the Privateers allowing them to only score 30 points. UTEP on the other hand would score 46 points in the 2nd half.

UTEP had four players in double figures as Mari Petree had a career high and game high 24 points, Eliana Cabral also had a career high 15 points. Elina Arike had 12 points and Sabine Lipe would score 10 points.

For New Orleans, Justice Ross was the leading scorer as she had 12 points.

The Miners start the season 1-0 and for their next game will travel to take on Kansas City on Sunday afternoon.
