UTEP’s Mattie Gantt, Hande Yetis, and Sara Pustahija earned the ninth 2022 Conference USA Volleyball Player of the Week honors presented by Blenders Eyewear on Monday by the league office.
Gantt and Yetis earned Co-Setters of the Week after combining for 80 assists in two matches, while teammate Pustahija earned Freshman of the Week after hitting .500 on the week.
Gantt named C-USA Co-Setter of the Week
Gantt set up a great performance in UTEPs back-to-back sweeps this weekend. On Friday, Gantt posted a match-high of 23 assists with a .535 clip. On Sunday, UTEP picked up another sweep, this time on the road at Charlotte, where Gantt recorded another match-high of 25 assists. Overall, she led the Miners with 48 assists. She combined with Yetis to post a total of 80 assists.
Yetis named C-USA Co-Setter of the Week
Yetis played a vital role in UTEP’s two victories this weekend. On Friday, Yetis posted 19 assists with a .679 clip. On Sunday, in a win on the road at Charlotte, Yetis recorded 13 assists. Overall, she averaged 5.33 assists per set. She combined with Gantt to post a total of 80 assists for the Miners with an assist percentage of .544.
Pustahija named C-USA Freshman of the Week
Pustahija was influential in the Miners success this weekend. Against UTSA on Friday, Pustahija recorded eight kills with a .500 hitting clip and totaled four service aces. On Sunday, Pustahija posted six kills with five aces in UTEP’s second sweep on the week over Charlotte. Overall, she led the Miners in points with 24.5 points, nine aces and 14 kills. The freshman from Belgrade, Serbia, also contributed 13 digs and three blocks.
The award is Pustahija’s fourth this season as she was first honored on Aug. 29 becoming the third Miner in program history to earn the league’s Freshman of the Week award. She then earned back-to-back honors on Oct. 3 and Oct. 10.
