The matchup at Hutchins Stadium between the visiting Horizon Scorpions and the Ysleta Indians was seen as a setting for two young struggling teams. The Scorpions were winless and the Indians were winners of one game thus far, but both teams wanted to get another notch in the win column.
Horizon would win the coin toss but would turn the ball over on the first play of the game. Ysleta would capitalize on the takeaway and score a touchdown by Evan Martinez on a 16yd run. Ysleta would lead 7-0 early on. After a short lived Scorpion drive, the Indians would once again score before the end of the quarter. Martinez would add to the lead with a 11yd run to put his team up 14-0 at the end of the first.

Ysleta wasted no time scoring in the opening moments of the second quarter off a 21yd run by Arath Gomez. The Ysleta offense seemed to be clicking on all cylinders in the first half of the game. They would go on to score before the end of the half on a 75yd touchdown pass from Martinez to Devin Hernandez to put the Indians up 28-0.
When play resumed in the second half, Martinez would once again find Hernandez on a 74yd touchdown pass to extend the Ysleta lead 35-0. Horizon would get on the scoreboard on a 17yd field goal before the end of the third quarter.
Horizon would get their first touchdown of the game on a 27yd touchdown run by their quarterback Robert Rodriguez but failed on their extra point attempt making the games score 35-9 early in the fourth quarter. Rodriguez would once again score on a 2yd run and convert the 2 points to narrow the Ysleta lead 35-17 midway thru the fourth. Martinez and Hernandez would once again connect on a 35yd touchdown pass. After a failed extra point attempt, Ysleta would lead 41-17. After a late field goal by the Indians, Horizon would score a late touchdown on a 73yd touchdown pass by Sergio Santana. Ysleta would go on to win 44-23.
Ysleta visits Del Valle for their next game while Horizon takes on Bel Air.
