Del Valle Defeats Horizon on Homecoming 62-0.

The Horizon Scorpions came to Conquest Stadium looking to play the role of spoiler on Del Valle’s homecoming, unfortunately for the upstart Scorpions Conquistadores Coach Rudy Contreras and his squad had alternative plans.

Del Valle dominated all phases of the game to kick-off their District play with a big 62 to 0 victory.

Horizon had no answers for the Del Valle Defense, with the Del Valle front seven being in the face of Horizon Quarterback Robert Rodriguez the entire night. Horizon only mustard one first down the entire game.

The Conquistadores offense was firing on all cylinders scoring touchdowns on all 7 of their first half possessions to take a 49-0 lead into the half. Quarterback Jesse Ramos had 4 touchdown passes to four different receivers in one half of play.

Del Valle seemingly ran the ball at will with running back Shelton Fuller having a breakout game 2 touchdowns on runs of 11 and 8 yards. Starting Running Back Juan Archuleta added a 3 yard touchdown run and scored on a 43 yard screen pass for his 2 scores on the night. Punt Returner/Receiver Matt Lopez scored a touchdown on an end-around and had several punt returns that set Del Valle up inside the red-zone on the night.

In the Second half Del Valle would score one touchdown (a run by Shelton Fuller) and two Adan Garcia short field goals while keeping the Scorpions scoreless.

The Conquistadores used the large lead to give underclassmen some playing time and reps to develop in the system. In the end Del Valle showed that they are most likely the most complete team in 1-5a with the 62-0 win.

For the Horizon Scorpions, coach Dwan Smith will try to regroup and get their first win of the season vs. a Hanks team coming off a loss to Bel Air.

Del Valle improves to 5-1 on the year with their one loss coming against number 1 Pebble Hills. The Conquistadores now turn their attention to a Parkland Matador team coming off a dominant win over Ysleta.
