BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – In front of 508 fans at the WKU Soccer Complex, the Lady Toppers held on for a 1-0 win over UTEP on Thursday night.
WKU (4-4-2, 1-1-0 C-USA) scored the lone goal for the game in the 12th minute and would never relinquish the lead.
To create the dangerous chance, the Lady Toppers booted a ball forward from just inside midfield that found Katie Erwin racing up the left-side. Erwin then launched a shot towards keeper Mariah Scott that would carom off her hands to a waiting Lily Rummo, who lifted a left-footed chip shot over Scott for the goal.

With the defeat, UTEP (3-5-3, 0-1-2 C-USA) had its five-game unbeaten streak snapped against the team picked to finish second in the C-USA Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
WKU outshot the Miners 11-3 on the night with a 4-1 edge in shots on goal. The Lady Toppers took 10 corners to three for UTEP.
Scott prevented further damage in the 28th minute with a nice diving save to her right on a shot by Brooke Sleeva. She would finish with three saves.
Tori Paul took two shots for the Miners off the bench, including the lone target on frame for the contest.
Kristen Prevosto made her first appearance of the season for UTEP and played a total of 10 minutes late in each half. The fifth-year senior has been a two-year starter for the Miners and is making a return from injury.
The road trip continues on Sunday for UTEP with a 10 a.m. MT/noon ET start at Charlotte.
