The Americas Trailblazers defense held off the Montwood Rams comeback attempt when Mario Holguin intercepted Michael Southern’s pass in the end zone with seconds left in the game to give the Trailblazers a 40 -37 win over the Rams at the Socorro Athletic Center on Thursday Night.
The interception was the second for Holguin as his first was a pick six in the First Quarter that gave the Trailblazers a 7-3 lead. Americas QB Mark Moore guided the team as they scored another three touchdown in the first half giving them a 29-16 lead at halftime.

The Montwood Rams were down by 16 points twice in the game but they never gave up. Their running game came to life in the second half and had the making of an epic comeback. Diego Oaxaca would have two TDs and and Kaleb Alvarez would get another in the second half giving the Rams all the momentum in the Fourth Quarter.
And just when it looked like they might pull off the big come back win, thats when Holguin and the Trailblazer defense stepped up and secured the victory with seconds to go in the game.
After the game, Americas Coach Patrick Melton talked to Daniel Hernandez about the win.
With the win Americas gets their first win of the season and in district. Next week they will host Franklin at the SAC. For Montwood they will take on Socorro as they look for their first win of the season.
