Senior quarterback Angel Munoz and the Riverside Rangers (2-0) dominated the Burges Mustangs (0-2) through the air and on the ground in an impressive 54-13 victory before a capacity crowd at Tom Work Riverfront Stadium.
Senior wide receiver Adrian Estrada capped Riverside’s first drive of the game with a 2-yard touchdown run with 7:50 remaining in the first quarter. The following Mustang drive came up empty, but a long punt had the Rangers with their backs to their own end zone on the 17 yard line. Two plays later, Munoz raced for 81 yards to the end zone, giving the Rangers a 14-0 lead with 4:38 remaining in the first quarter.
Senior quarterback Andrew Rutledge put the Mustangs on the scoreboard with an 11 yard touchdown pass to junior running back Shawn Bowser with 8:40 remaining in the second quarter. On the next Ranger drive, Munoz scored again on a 20-yard run with 7:15 remaining in the second quarter. A third touchdown by Munoz with 38 seconds left in the first half gave the Rangers a 21-7 lead.

The Rangers kept their feet on the gas to open the second half.
Munoz took the kickoff 80 yards to the end zone to open the second half. An interception by senior Ranger defensive back Tristan Lopez ended the Mustangs’ second half opening drive. Junior running back Noah Ramirez raced 40 yards to find the end zone for the Rangers yet again, putting Riverside on cruise control with a 42-7 lead with 6:00 remaining in the third quarter.
The Mustangs managed to hold the Rangers to a field goal to start the fourth quarter and also scored on a Routledge 30-yard touchdown pass to junior Alex Rios with 8:49 remaining in the game. The final touchdown for the Rangers came on an Estrada 33 yard reception from senior quarterback Ian Montion.
The final score of the game came late in the fourth quarter when the Mustangs in punt formation snapped the ball over the head of the punter, giving the Rangers a safety.
Angel Munoz completed 11 of 17 passes for 239 yards, rushed eight times for 165 yards and four touchdowns, and returned a kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown for the Rangers. Adrian Estrada rushed 11 times for 113 yards and two touchdowns.
Andrew Routledge completed 11 of 21 passes for 96 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. Shawn Bowser rushed 10 times for 63 yards.
