Year 2 of the Joe Golding era will officially get underway in Austin Texas on November 7th as the 2022-2023 UTEP Men’s Basketball schedule was officially announced by none other than the charismatic 2nd year coach, and will certainly be a baptism by fire for 13 new Miner faces.
When the first whistle blows and the ball hits the hardwood for the first time it will be to face the Texas Longhorns who will be christening the brand new Moody Arena.

Another interesting wrinkle in the schedule is the Battle of I-10 which will feature the Miners playing their annual home-and-home series against the New Mexico State Aggies with UTEP hosting on November 12th and the trip to Las Cruces November 30th. Interestingly enough there will be a potential 3rd matchup with the Aggies as for the first time the Aggies will be participating in the annual Westar Sunbowl Invitational Tournament.
There is a possibility that a third matchup could take place on December 22nd if the Miners and Aggies meet either in the Tournament’s Championship or Consolation Game. Should this third meeting take place it would be the first-time since the 1994-1995 season where the Miners and Aggies met at the Don Haskins Center in the Postseason NIT Tournament on March 20th 1995 where the Miners suffered a 92-89 overtime loss to end their season.
The Miners will only play 3 games away from the friendly confines of the Don Haskins Center prior to Conference USA play with the final non-conference road trip taking place on December 10th when the Miners will visit the Big East’s Depaul in Chicago. Following the Depaul trip the Miners have an unusually early Conference USA opener at home versus LA Tech on December 17th.
The Weststar Sunbowl Invitational will be sandwiched between the Conference USA home opener and the Miners first CUSA road game against UAB on December 29th.
Looking ahead to the full Conference USA schedule the Miners will play a full 20-game Conference schedule and have their longest series of consecutive road games January 28th versus North Texas, February 2nd against Middle Tennessee and on February 4th versus Western Kentucky before returning to the Don Haskins Center to face Charlotte on February 9th. Conference USA’s regular season finally will end at home versus Middle Tennessee on March 3rd, before the CUSA Tournament at Frisco TX. Check out the full UTEP Schedule here:
