The El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame Student Athletes of Year

The El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame and presenting sponsor the El Paso Sports Commission are pleased to announce the 2022 Ray Sanchez High School Student- Athletes of the Year.

Ray Sanchez passed away on January 12, 2022, at the age of 94. He was a decorated sportswriter, author, and sports historian for over 60 years and a 1978 inductee into the El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame. Mr. Sanchez was a founding committee member of the Hall of Fame in 1955 and is survived by his wife Helen, 4 children, 8 grandchildren and 9 great- grandchildren.

El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame President Dr. Scott Stein said, “We are very pleased to honor the great memory of Ray Sanchez by having these annual awards now bear his name.” Dr. Stein added, “The honorees ae selected based on athletics, academics, and community volunteerism in this the 41st year of honoring these outstanding student athletes. 

Awards will be presented on Tuesday, June 21st at 3:00 p.m. at the Airport Radisson Hotel, 1770 Airway Blvd. Information (915) 373-6708.
