The Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC beat the El Paso Locomotive FC 1-0 ending the Locos three game winning streak at Highmark Stadium on Saturday night.
This was the first ever meeting between the teams and in the first half both teams had a couple of shots on goal but they would fail to score as both defenses played good.
That would change as soon as the second half started as Pittsburgh’s Russell Cicerone scored a goal in the 46th minute giving the Riverhounds the 1-0 lead.
For the rest of the match, Pittsburgh’s defense would limit the opportunities that El Paso would have on goal. The Locos best chance at a goal came in the 89 minute when Lucho Solignac had a penalty kick but goalkeeper Kevin Silva would block the kick preserving the Riverhounds victory.
With the loss the Locos are now 4-6-1 with 13 points. They won’t have long to dwell on the loss as they will be back in action on Wednesday night as they host Sacramento Republic at Southwest University Park. Kickoff is at 7 pm.
