The El Paso Locomotive FC lost 2-1 against New Mexico United in the season home opener at Southwest University Park on Saturday night.
The Locos got on the board first as Dylan Mares scored the first goal of the season at home in the 22nd minute. He scored with a left footed shot from the center of the box to the left corner after the assist from Emmanuel Sonupe.
It wouldn’t take New Mexico long to tie up the game as Neco Brett would score just 10 minutes later on a right footed shot from the right of the box.
Both teams wouldn’t be able to score for the rest of the first half, so at halftime the game remained tied 1-1.
It was an offense struggle for both teams to start off the second half until Tabort-Etaka Preston gave New Mexico a 2-1 lead when he scored in the 66th minute as he shot around the goalie in to the back of the net.
The Locomotive FC would have several opportunities to score after the United goal but they failed to do so giving New Mexico the 2-1 win.
With the loss, El Paso is 0-2 and New Mexico United is 2-0 and gets the 3 points. The Locos will be back in action on Wednesday night as they host Las Vegas Lights FC at Southwest University Park at 7 p.m.
