UTEP Dominates Old Dominion 74-64 in 2nd RD of C-USA Tournament

The UTEP Miners Men’s Basketball ball team had a dominating 74-64 win over the Old Dominion Monarchs in the second round of the Heritage Landscape Supply Group C-USA Basketball Championship at the Ford Center at the Star in Frisco, Texas.

The Miners got off to a 7-0 start to the game and they never looked back. The Miners shot 48% from the field in the first half and had a 34-21 lead at halftime thanks to Souley Boum’s 11 points along with Keonte Kennedy’s 8 points.

In the second half, the Miners who led the entire game, continued to dominate and at one point had a 19 point lead until Old Dominion made a run during the last five minutes of the game that cut the lead to 10 points which was the margin of victory for the Miners.

The Miners were led by Souley Boum who had 21 points with 6 rebounds and 2 assists for the game. UTEP would have three other players in double figures as Keonte Kennedy scored 17 points, Jamal Bieniemy had 13 and Tydus Verhoeven scored 12 points.

For the Monarchs, C.J. Keyser had 20 points in the losing effort.

With the win, the Miners will move on to the third round of the C-USA Basketball Championship as they will face the #1 seed from the East, the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders at 7 p.m. on Thursday night
