The UTEP Miners Women’s Basketball team lost their fourth game in a row as they lost to the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters 77-60 Thursday Night at the Don Haskins Center.
The best way to describe this game in the first quarter is by saying that it was quarter of runs. LA Tech started the game on a 9-3 run but then the Miners would go on a 15-0 run of their own to take the lead but then the Lady Techsters would end the quarter on a 12-0 run of their own to retake the lead at the end of it 22-18
In the second quarter both teams scored 10 points so that meant the LA Tech would have a 4 point lead at halftime.
The game got away from the Miners in the third quarter as Keiunna Walker took over the game for LA Tech and had her team with a 10 point lead at the end of it.
In the fourth quarter she continued to make shots allowing her to score a career best 32 points and at one point gave Louisiana Tech a 22 point lead over the Miners. When the reserves for both teams got into the game the Miners were able to bring down the lead to 17 which gave the Lady Techsters the 77-60 win.
The Miners were lead by Mahri Petree, who got the start because Destiny Thurman wasn’t able to play in the game. She had a season high 13 points along with 6 rebounds. Brenda Fontana was the only other Miner that scored in double figures as she had 10 points off the bench.
With the loss, the Miners are now 13-11 overall and 5-9 in C-USA play. They will play their final home game of the season as they host Southern Miss on Saturday afternoon. Tip off is scheduled at noon. You can listen to the game on the free UTEP App or you can watch the game on C-USA TV. Mando Medina will be calling the action for both.
