The UTEP Miners Women’s Basketball team lost their third game in a row as they fell to the Marshall Thundering Herd 60-48 Sunday afternoon at the Cam Henderson Center in Huntington West Virginia.
Marshall started the game on an 8-0 run but the Miners were able to make a 11-2 run of their own and have a 11-10 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The pivotal point in the game took place in the second quarter as the game was tied at 15 when Marshall went on an 11-2 run to give them a nine point lead at halftime. The Miners also lost Destiny Thurman in the second quarter as she injured and didn’t return to the game.
UTEP outscored Marshall in the third quarter 19-16 and they had cut the lead to 6 at the end of the quarter but in the fourth, Marshall outscored the Miners 18-12 to give them the 12 point victory.
The Miners were lead by Avery Crouse as she had 12 points and 6 rebounds. Elina Arike had 8 points and 6 rebounds. Brenda Fontana scored 6 points and Mahri Petree had 5 points off the bench.
Marshall had two players in double figures as Savannah Wheeler and Aaliyah Dunham reach had 16 points for the Thundering Herd.
With the loss the Miners are now 13-10 overall and 5-8 in Conference USA play. They’ll try to bounce back as they play Louisiana Tech Thursday night at the Don Haskins Center.
