Louisiana Tech Holds on to Beat UTEP 68-65

The UTEP Miners Women’s Basketball team’s comeback fell short as they lost 68-65 to the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters Monday night at the Thomas Assembly Center in Ruston Louisiana.

LA Tech got off to a fast start as they had a 6-0 run to start it. That would put the Miners in a bind as they would have to play catch up for the rest of the game.

The Miners were down by 19 points with 4:37 left in the third quarter when they mounted a huge comeback in the third and the fourth quarters that would feature the Miners outscore the Lady Techsters 19-11 towards the end of the game and not allow them to score any field goals in the last four minutes of the game but LA Tech would hold to win by making their free throws in the last moments of the game.

The Miners had four players in double figures as they were lead by Destiny Thurman’s 19 points. Katia Gallegos had 13, Elina Arike had 12 points and 8 rebounds and Avery Crouse scored 11 points with 8 rebounds. LA Tech was lead by Keiunna Walker’s 17 points.

With the loss, the Miners are 13-9 overall and 5-7 in C-USA play. The team has lost their last 4 out of five games and they will look to rebound as they travel to face Marshall Sunday morning at 11 a.m. You can listen to the game on the free UTEP Miners App. Mando Medina will have the call.
