Thurman’s 30 Points Leads Miners Past Mean Green 75-62

Destiny Thurman scored a career high 30 points and led the UTEP Miners Women’s Basketball team to a 75-62 win over The North Texas Mean Green Thursday night at the Don Haskins Center.

After losing their last two in games, The Miners needed to get off on a good start and that’s exactly what they did. They started the game on a 9-0 run and they would never give up the lead for the rest of the game.

The Miners were up by eight points after the first quarter and they had a 12 point lead at halftime.

To start the third quarter, North Texas would go on a 6-0 run but the Miners would counter with a 15-0 run of their own and they would have a 15 point lead going into the fourth. The Mean Green would make another run in the fourth quarter and cut the lead down to 8 but the Miners would make another run also that sealed the win for them 75-62

Besides Thurman’s career best 30 points, the Miners had two other players in double figures. Erin Wilson had a season high 15 points and Avery Crouse had 14 points including a last second three pointer buzzer beater to end the first half.

With the win UTEP is now 13-7 overall and 5-5 in C-USA play. They will play next on Saturday afternoon as they take on the Rice Owls at 1pm at the Don Haskins Center. You can hear the game on the free UTEP Miners App or you can watch the game on C-USA TV, Mando Medina will have the call.
