Playing their fourth game in seven days, the UTEP Miners Women’s Basketball team overwhelmed the UTSA Roadrunners 69-52 Thursday night at the Convocation Center in San Antonio.
The Miners had their best performance of the season shooting three pointers as they shot 47 percent.
The game was close for most of the first quarter until the Miners went on a 9-0 run sparked by Mahri Petree’s 6 points and a 3 by Destiny Thurman. After that the Miners dominated the rest of the half.
The Miners continued their aggressive play in the second half both offensively and defensively and at one point lead by 25 points.
UTEP was lead by Destiny Thurman’s 12 points and they had two other players in double figures as Avery Crouse and Mahri Petree both had 10 points. In fact every single player on the roster played and scored in Thursday’s victory.
With the win UTEP is now 3-3 in C-USA and 11-5 overall. The Miners will face off with UTSA again on Sunday afternoon at 1pm the Don Haskins Center. You can listen to the game on the free UTEP app or you can watch it on C-USA tv. Mando Medina will have the call.
