Locomotive FC Secures Home Playoff Game with Win over Switchbacks FC

The El Paso Locomotive FC secured a home playoff game as they beat the Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC 4-2 Wednesday night at Southwest University Park.

At first it looked like the Locos were going to be in for a rough night as the Switchbacks scored quickly as Hadji Berry scored a goal five minutes into the match. But El Paso would respond in the 21st minute when Ricardo Zacarias would score his first goal for the Locos.

Fourteen minutes later, Deshane Beckford’s goal would give the Switchbacks a 2-1 lead that they would take into halftime.

The Locos came out fired up in the second half as they would dominate the Switchbacks FC as they would score three unanswered goals. The first came at the 61st minute by Macca King, the second was scored by Lucho Solignac in the 86th minute and the third was added by Diego Luna in the 97th minute.

Here’s what Coach Mark Lowry had to saw about El Paso’s Impressive win:

“This group has done so well, they’ve put us back into the mix of fighting for other things than just Mountain Division. Winning the group, can we push Phoenix as far as we can, those types of things. It’s a massive achievement from everybody over the course of the season. Everybody has played a role and contributed. I’m really proud as a coach that everybody is getting onto the field whether it’s because they need to out of necessity or they’re coming on because of tactical changes. Everyone over the core season has contributed to this.”

With the win the playoff bound Locos claimed three points and are now 16-2-10, 58 points, they play again on Sunday, October 17 when they travel to Carson, California for LA Galaxy II. Kickoff from Dignity Health Sports Park is set for 6:00 p.m. MT and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
