The Americas Trailblazers were impressive in their 28-20 win over the Montwood Rams Thursday night at the Socorro Athletic Complex.
The Trailblazers started fast as they scored on every possession in the first quarter. The first touchdown came when QB Mark Moore ran for a 21 YD TD, and for the second, Moore connected with Anthony Miranda for a 78 YD TD reception. Moore would score another rushing touchdown with one minute left in the quarter giving Americas a 21-0 lead after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Montwood would finally get on the board when Yamil Oaxaca scored on a 2 YD TD reception. But they would still trail 21-7 at the half.
In the third quarter both defensives stepped up as they each forced turnovers in the first minute of the quarter and they wouldn’t allow the offenses to score.
In the fourth quarter, Americas would add another seven points to the scoreboard when Noah Franco scored on a 13 YD pick six.
Montwood would try to mount a comeback as they scored two touchdowns in the quarter as Oaxaca would have a 20 YD TD reception and Kaleb Alvarez would have a 19 YD TD reception of his own but the Trailblazer defense would stop the Rams in their next drive securing the victory for Americas.
With the win Americas is now 3-1 in district play and will face off against the Pebble Hills Spartans next Thursday at the SAC. The Montwood Rams will try to bounce back as they host the Eastlake Falcons.
After the game, Americas coach Patrick Melton talked to Ace Acosta about the win:
