UTEP Tennis Looks To Build On Season-Opening Performance At SDSU Invite

EL PASO, Texas – The UTEP tennis team will look to build upon its strong performance at the NM State Invite when it competes at the San Diego State University Invitational Friday through Sunday (Oct. 1-3).

All seven members of the team will be in action. UTEP will join host SDSU, Long Beach State, San Jose State, Cal State Northridge and Grand Canyon in comprising the field.

“We are very excited to participate in such a competitive tournament,” UTEP head coach Ivan Fernandez said. “All the teams are extremely strong and deep. We expect a lot of tough matches, and we are really looking forward to see how we stack up against this level of competition.”

Every player who competed at the season-opening NM State Invite (Sept. 17-19) finished with a winning record in singles action, with the team combining to go 20-8 over the three days. Thassane Abrahim, Elena Dibattista and Veronika Lebisova each compiled a mark of 3-1 in singles to lead the way.

The Orange and Blue also tasted success in doubles, going 6-4 across the board. Abrahim and Lebisova were 2-0 at the event.

There will not be any live results during the invitational, but a release with results from each day of action will be posted on UTEPMiners.com.
