Both teams came into the game with a record of one win and two losses. This was the last out-of-district game for Burges and Hanks came into the game with almost 100 more all purpose yards than
Burges. Then the game began and tonight it belonged to the Burges Mustangs as they easily won 68-6
Burges scored first and Hanks followed. Hank’s Xavier Johnson intercepted the ball for a 53-yard run to score Hanks only touchdown of the night. Hanks did drive to Burges 5 yard line but QB Luis Perez threw the first of three interceptions and that was the closest Hanks saw for the rest of the night..
The night belonged to Tavorus Jones. 2 running touchdowns, one passing touchdown and he even threw a pass for a touchdown for 30 yards to Sean Street. Jones only played the first half and he 5 carries for 116 yards and 2 catches for 15 yards. Jones showed some class late in the second half. Twice, Tavorus could have turned the corner on Hank’s defenders but choose to run the ball out of bounds.
The score at half time was Burges 41 Hanks 6
The second half, Burges played the second string and we were able to see some bright spots that will be up and coming for Burges. Sean Street scored his second touchdown on a 41 yard pass play. Ray Campos caught a 35 touchdown pass late in the third quarter.
Hanks finishes the night with one win and three losses. There is some talent on Hanks. Luis Perez has a nice arm but needs to be a little more accurate. Wide receiver Erik Folkedahl is a good receiver and caught some key passes… but they were not enough.
The final score was Burges 68 and Hanks 6. Hanks plays Lubbock Cooper next week and Burges opens district play with Jefferson.
