Both the Austin Panthers and Goddard Rockets came into Friday’s game not only undefeated, but with a large amount of momentum. And in the end it would be the Rockets that would win the game 36-14
That momentum continued for the Rockets in the middle of the first quarter with a Javyn Morales 14-yard TD run to put Goddard up, 6-0.
The next score for the Rockets came with 15 seconds into the 2nd quarter with a 61-yard TD screen pass from Noah Reese to Javyn Morales and a converted 2-point conversion to make it 14-0, Goddard.
Austin’s sole score of the 1st half came with 56 seconds left, when Jayden Wilson threw a Fleaflicker to Sebastian Morales for a 23-yard TD pass.
With everyone thinking that was the final score before halftime, Goddard’s Javyn Morales had a 70-yard kickoff return to make it 21-8 Goddard at the half.
The Austin defense was able to hold the Rocket offense for the majority of the 3rd quarter, which led the Panthers to scoring on a 16-yard TD run by Israel Luna. The Panthers went for the 2-point PAT, but that was intercepted by Goddard’s Javyn Morales who ran it back to make it 23-14, Goddard.
With what seemed like the 1-man show, Goddard’s Javyn Morales continued his spectacular showing had a 9-yard TD run on the very first play of the 4th quarter to make it 30-14, Goddard.
Morales’ superb performance continued in the middle of the 4th quarter when he cruised past all Panther defenders for a 65-yard TD run to make it 36-14.
That was the final score of the game, as Austin tried to get on the board one last time, but that was halted by an interception by Goddard’s Elijah Quiroz.
Next week, the Panthers (2-1) have a bye to recuperate from this game and prepare for district play. The Rockets (3-0) host Hobbs next Friday.
