Devin Granados leads Canutillo to 34-13 Win over Chapin

Canutillo senior quarterback Devin Granados tossed three touchdowns, ran for two more, and junior wide receiver L.J. Martin caught two touchdown passes as the Canutillo Eagles rolled against the Chapin Huskies by a score of 34 to 13 at Irvin High School Tony Shaw Field.

The Huskies received the opening kickoff and the Eagles forced a turnover on downs.  Successive drives by both teams ended in punts.

The Eagles found the end zone on their second possession of the first quarter.  A Martin 42 yard TD reception gave Canutillo a 7-0 lead with 4:08 remaining.   

The Eagles intercepted a Standerfer pass deep in Husky territory on the subsequent drive.   A 3-yard Granados TD run increased the Canutillo lead to 14-0 with 11:20 remaining in the second quarter. 

The Eagles and Huskies exchanged punts on the following three drives.  

Canutillo struck again for the third time in the first half, a 16-yard TD reception by Martin with 4:22 remaining in the second quarter.

The Huskies defense managed to slow the Eagles attack in the second half, but Canutillo struck again halfway through the third quarter on a 50 yard touchdown catch by junior wide receiver Lorenzo Areola with 6:15 remaining, giving the Eagles a comfortable 28-0 lead.

On the ensuing drive, Chapin would find the end zone for the first time in the contest on a 36 yard touchdown toss from sophomore quarterback Hunter Standerfer to Timothy Pastran with 5:03 remaining in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the Eagles’ rushing attack played keep away from the Chapin offense and ate up the clock, leaving the Huskies with very little time to mount a counterattack.  The visiting Eagles would find the end zone for the last time with 2:40 remaining on a 1 yard run by Granados.  The final touchdown of the contest came with 2:04 remaining on a 29 yard touchdown catch by Chapin wide receiver Timothy Pastran.

Final Score:  Canutillo 34. Chapin 13.
