On a beautiful Thursday evening from the SAC, the Montwood Rams took down the visiting Burges Mustangs by a score of 29-13.
This game was a tale of two halfs, first half was dominated by defense as score was tied up at 6 at the break. Burges star RB Tavorus Jones opened the scoring with a 20 yd TD run in the 1st Quarter to take an early 6-0 lead.
In the 2nd Quarter, Montwood stud WR Yamil Oaxaca caught a 2 yard TD pass from Rams QB Kevin Melendez to even the score at 6-6 going into halftime.
In the 3rd Quarter, Rams QB Melendez hit Nathan Carmona on a 12 yard TD pass to go up 13-6.
At the start of the 4th Quarter, Rams RB Izayuh Claudio scampered in from 5 yards in for a score 19-6. Montwood made a change at QB in the 4th as Junior QB Isaac Galvan hit WR Ian Cano on a 43 yard TD to put Montwood up 26-6.
On the ensuing drive, from deep in their in own territory, Mustang RB Jesus Torres caught a quick pass from QB Andrew Routledge and then lateraled to RB Tavorus Jones for a 96 yard TD run to close the gap, 26-13.
That would be the last of the scoring for Burges as Montwood would drive the length of the field late in the 4th Quarter and Ram K Diego Saballos kicked a 29 yard FG, final score 29-13.
Montwood will have a bye week and Burges will host the Hanks Knights.
