After a hour lighting delay, the San Angelo Central Bobcats were able to pull away late in the game to beat the Montwood Rams 34-29 at the Socorro Athletic Complex.
The Rams got on the scoreboard first when QB Kevin Melendez threw a 59 yd TD pass to Yamil Oaxaca giving Montwood a 7-0 lead.
San Angelo Central would answer back and tie up the game after they put together a 16 play 85 yard drive that ended with a 8 yd TD run by Darius Floyd.
Montwood would then retake the lead as they put on an impressive 9 play 79 yard drive that was capped by a Melendez to Oaxaca 5 yd TD pass giving Montwood a 14-7 lead 10:45 in the 2nd quarter
And then that’s the game paused due to a lightning delay.
The delay lasted about an hour and when play resumed the teams picked up where they left off.
San Angelo Central would tie up the game after QB Tyler Hill had a 53 yard TD run.
Then the Rams would retake the lead when Melendez connected with Oaxaca on a 62 yd TD pass but they missed the PAT and that made the score 20-14. The Bobcats would add another TD that would make the score 20-20 at halftime.
In the 3rd quarter, the Bobcats would score two straight touchdowns that gave them a 34-20 lead. The first was a 6 play 75 yard drive that ended with a Samuel Navarrete 2 yd td run and the second was a Darius Floyd 4 yd TD run.
The Rams would add a field goal by Diego Saballos that made the score 34-23 at the end of the 3 QT.
In the fourth quarter Montwood would score with under five minutes left to play in the game when Melendez once again connected with Oaxaca on a 17 yd TD pass. That made the score Central 34 Montwood 29 and it would end up being the final score as the Bobcats were able to run out the clock on their next drive.
The Rams look to bounce back next week as they host Burges on Thursday night.
