Midland Christian Impresses in 42-7 Win over Americas

The Midland Christian Mustangs opened up their season in an impressive fashion by beating the Americas Trailblazers 42-7 at the Socorro Athletic Complex on Friday afternoon.

The Mustangs scored their first touchdown on a QB Ryver Rodriguez 22 yd run 6:17 into the game. That capped a 10 play 80 yard drive. They converted a two point conversion giving them a 8-0 lead.

Americas answered back has they had a 10 play 62 yard drive that was topped with a 10 yd touchdown run by QB Mark Moore with 2:27 in the 1 QT.

It looked like these teams would go back and forth with scoring but that wasn’t the case. The rest of the game was dominated by Midland Christian.

To start the 2nd quarter, Midland Christian had a 11 play drive that went for 75 yards and ended with a 2 yd run by RB Dylan Crotta making the score 15-7. The Mustangs extended the lead to 21-7 after QB Ryver Rodriguez scored on a 51 yd TD run.

Americas had some good offense drives in the 2nd QT but they both ended with fumbles deep in the red zone.

The Mustangs would score again right before halftime when they put together a 8 play 92 yard drive that was capped with Rodriguez 32 yd TD pass to Sean Madison making the score 28-7.

The second half was basically the same. Americas struggled to move the ball and Midland Christian would score two more times. RB Nathaniel Brito had a 50 yd TD run that made the score 35-7 and Rodriguez threw another TD pass, this time to WR Chandler Caraway that gave the Mustangs a 42-7 lead which would also be the final score.

Americas will try to bounce back next week when they play Bryan Rudder in Kerville.
