Bel Air Pulls Away from Socorro 21-6

The Bel Air Highlanders got their 2021 season off to a good start as they beat the Socorro Bulldogs 21-6 Thursday night at the S.A.C.

After a slow start by both teams, Bel Air got their first points of the season when Christian Baxte had a 29 yd TD run with 6:38 in the first quarter giving them a 7-0 lead.

The Highlanders would make the score 14-0 when Quarterback Noah Moreno kept the ball and ran 23 yards for the touchdown in the second quarter.

Socorro put together a good 16 play 68 yd drive and it looked like they were gonna score before halftime, but the Bel Air defense put a stop to it with an interception.

In the second half both teams went scoreless in the third quarter but in the fourth, Socorro finally got on the scoreboard when QB Bryan Leyva scored on a 3 yd run but the PAT was no good making the score 14-6 with 6:36 left to play.

With the Bulldogs back in the game, it was up to the Highlander offense to respond and that’s exactly what they did. They put together a 8 play 60 yd drive that ended with a Jason Smith seven yard pass to Adam Gomez that iced the game for Bel Air giving them the 21-6 win.

After the game, Highlanders coach Eric Scogin talked about his teams performance:

Up next, Bel Air will be hosting the Burges Mustangs and Socorro will host the Ysleta Indians.
