The Andress Golden Eagles and Chapin Huskies opened the 2021 high school football season Thursday night at historic R.E. McKee Stadium on the campus of Austin High.
These longtime District 1-5A competitors, now playing in a non-district matchup played in front of a big crowd as Andress pulled off the 42-13 victory.
After a scoreless 1st Quarter, Chapin Sr QB Mason Standerfer hit WR Tristan Pastran on a 36 yard TD pass, extra point missed, Chapin 6 Andress 0.
Andress quickly responded as Jr. QB Elias Duncan connected with Sr. Jeremiah Cooper on a 60 yard strike down to the Huskies 4 yard line. On the following play, RB Malachi Do runs it in for a 4 yd TD, Andress 7 Chapin 6.
There was a definite momentum shift as the Golden Eagles ran off 28 unanswered points.
Some big takeaway from this first night of high school football, Chapin Sr QB Mason Standerfer has a cannon for an arm, and once he starts connecting with his receivers consistently, the Huskies could be a force in a very competitive DII-5A.
Andress’s Mr. Do Everything, Jeremiah Cooper, will be the key to the Golden Eagles success going forward. The Iowa State commit played multiple positions on offense and was key to Andress’s scoring drives all night.
Cooper ended with 142 all purpose yards and 1 INT. Will be interesting to see how defenses and offenses will prepare weekly to tying to stop #4 and the Golden Eagles.
