EL PASO, Texas – For the sixth consecutive year, the UTEP tennis team has been recognized as an ITA All-Academic Team. Furthermore, Thassane Abrahim, Lyric Bonilla, Eve Daniels, Elena Dibattista, Veronika Lebisova, Kathleen Percegona and Vanessa Valdez were named as ITA scholar athletes.
“This team has once again impressed me with their hard work and commitment to academics,” UTEP head coach Ivan Fernandez said. “This year was extremely difficult for them with classes being online and hybrid. This group did a great this year and i could not be more proud of them.”
The Miners turned in a 3.75 GPA in the spring semester and a 3.66 GPA during the fall semester for a combined GPA of 3.71. The outstanding effort topped all teams in the UTEP athletic department and easily surpassed the ITA’s minimum standard of 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale) to once again qualify for the award. For the individual student-athlete the bar is raised to a 3.50 GPA.
