Locomotive FC Comes Back to Beat New Mexico United 2-1

El Paso Locomotive FC Midfielder Dylan Mares scored two goals in a two minute span that gave the Locomotive the victory over New Mexico United 2-1 at a sold out Southwest University park.

New Mexico United had a 1-0 lead at halftime thanks to a goal by Brian Brown at the 41st minute of the match.

But then shortly after the second half started, the Locos would rally as Mares scored two goals in the 56th and 57 minute. After that the Locomotive defense would take over and secure the 2-1 victory over their rivals.

Here’s what Head Coach Mark Lowry said post match:

“Tonight, was about our response, our reaction, and showing people who we are, I thought for the majority of the game we did that. Obviously, the second half is what people will remember but I thought the guys did a decent job all the way through. In the second half, they just showed that extra intensity and determination.”

With the victory, the Locomotive gets 3 points and their record improves to 5-1-3 with 18 points.

For their next game, the Locomotive goes on the road to take on Real Monarchs at Zions Bank Stadium on Friday, July 9 with kickoff set for 8:00 p.m. MT and will be broadcast live digitally on ESPN+.
